| The Island of Malolo Lai Lai (Little Malolo) sits next to Malolo Island. Malolo is a native lease island, whilst Malolo Lai Lai is a freehold island owned by the Smith Family. Malolo Lai Lai is home to Musket Cove Resort (owned by the Smith Family) and Plantation Resort on the other side of the island.
The two islands form a giant protected horseshoe shape, separated by a sand spit and in turn creating a giant lagoon which is not only beautiful for swimming and coral viewing but is the best known anchorage and super yachts in the South Pacific. Every large yacht visiting the South Pacific chooses this mecca for its anchorage for its location and protection from the tradewinds. Musket Cove Resort also has full marina facilities and fully stocked supermarket, which makes it the perfect location for longer term stays.
With the mix of yachties, world travellers and weekly guests on Musket Cove Resort it makes for an interesting drink down at the ‘$3’ Bar at the end of the Marina at Musket Cove.
If you don’t feel like mixing, there are many private beaches on the island accessible by mountain bike, golf cart or just a walk. Mountain bikes and golf carts are available, the latter with notice with your booking agent.
Musket Cove Resort has the ‘Trader' which operates all day and every day for fantastic breakfasts, lunches and early dinners – great smoothies. For more formal dining and a great cocktail and wine list, the main restaurant overlooks the olympic size free form pool - perfect for the island sunsets. There are two other great restaurants on the island itself – Plantation Island Restaurant and Ananda’s Restaurant that has a great local menu and a resident band. Plantation also has para-flying and big banana rides for kids.
The entire resort faces west into the island fringed lagoon as does Villa Malolo, so wherever you are at the resort, one of the beaches or the Villa – island sunsets you cannot miss.
Every imaginable island activity is available at the resort including full PADI certification. Another fantastic thing to do is the Sunset Cruises or Chartering a speed boat for a lunch or afternoon drink at one of the surrounding other islands.
If your love is surfing or body boarding, the islands of Tavarua and Namotu are 8-10 minutes by boat. Certain breaks are always open to be surfed. You can either charter your own speedboat or there are two local operators on Malolo Island that will pick you up at the bottom of the stairs at Villa Malolo, just let the Sports Bure know at Musket Cove Marina and they will book your pick up – every morning if you like – the operators will give you a good deal, usually about $F 40-50 for 3 hours – its good value. Or you can surf for 1 hour and snorkel on the way back or stop for a lunch somewhere.
There are two boutiques on the island with most back up medical gear and some prescriptions can be filled overnight or within 24 hours.Fantastic spa and massage Centre at Musket Cove with a huge massage Bure right on the beach with girls ready to pamper you.
The entire area is dotted with islands and most have resorts with great restaurants and bars on them.
